Project title, type and project number
Sonata18 project no 2022/47/D/ST4/03286 entitled “Induced reactivity of triazole derivatives: theoretical and laser control of reverse "click" reaction”, 40/2024
Project leader
Dr Dariusz G. Piekarski
Description
This research initiative is dedicated to the theoretical and experimental exploration of the evolutionary dynamics of various molecular targets, including chiral molecules and molecular clusters of 1,2,3-triazole derivatives, driven by femto- and nanosecond laser pulses. Special emphasis will be placed on the influence of chiral light in these processes.
Our primary experimental objective is to establish a cross-beam laser-induced setup, enabling the systematic investigation of the aforementioned subjects. This investigation will primarily rely on the analysis of mass spectra obtained following laser irradiation, in conjunction with diverse ionization and excitation sources available through our collaborative research centers. The proposed experimental setup builds upon the foundation of prior projects conducted at our institute under the guidance of Prof. Jacinto Sá. It will encompass a comprehensive assessment of the chemical attributes of triazole derivatives, encompassing various substituents, including chiral centers, while also considering environmental factors through the assembly of molecular clusters.
The appointed researcher will be responsible for the development and meticulous application of the cross-beam experimental apparatus, employing a 1030 nm, 20W, 160 J, 300 fs laser and continuous molecular beam system to examine a broad spectrum of molecular targets.
This experimental endeavor will receive invaluable support from esteemed colleagues at leading European cross-beam experimental centers, namely CNRS (France) and CNR (Italy). Additionally, theoretical quantum chemical computations will be conducted in-house to complement and lead the empirical investigations.

Career development prospects at IPC PAS
The selected candidate will gain valuable new knowledge and methods to enhance their skill set related with the cross-beam techniques using fs laser. The project focuses on the interdisciplinary area between physics and chemistry, with long-standing goal of potential applications in photochemistry. Successful implementation of the project could open up new perspectives in the field, potentially leading to the development of an entirely new area of research.
We plan to publish the results of the work in high impact factor journals.
The successful candidate will be eligible for all programs at the IPC PAS, including the IPC PAS Young Scientists competition and the IPC PAS Young Scientists Mobility competition.
Institute provides an opportunity to participate in ERASMUS+ programme
