Proof of Concept, project no. FENG.02.07-IP.05-0252/23, entitled “Novel tunable fiber light source synchronously pumped by laser pulses at fixed central wavelength”
Project leader
Dr inż. Katarzyna Krupa
Description
Light sources with a wide tuning range that deliver spectrally narrow, high-energy pulses are crucial for application in nonlinear multicolor imaging and spectroscopy. Traditionally, achieving these parameters required using free space optics and solid-state lasers, which are large, expensive, and sensitive to operating condition changes. Recent developments in fiber optic and lasers have resulted in more compact systems that do not require adjustment and that are resistant to environmental changes, making them ideal for use outside of laboratories.
This project aims to develop a multicolor light source that exploits a nonlinear self-phase modulation of chirp pulses to tune the spectral position of four-wave mixing sidebands. This innovative approach does not require a tunable pump to cover the entire range of parametric gain. It can thus be based on fiber oscillators with a fixed central wavelength. A fiber optical parametric oscillator system will be constructed to enhance frequency conversion efficiency and control the width of the newly generated spectral sidebands.
